By the use of divination and magic, some ties can never be severed.

In the beginning, by the light of the Full Moon, Frankie connects with Candice’s energy through dream time and witnesses her involvement in a terrifying act of violence. After receiving information from Sandra that their childhood friend is missing, they pack their bags and head to the inner city to find her.

Frankie, afraid for her own safety, has a chance encounter with a local named Calvin who is plugged into what’s happening. Using his workable ideas—as well as Frankie and Sandra consulting tarot, ordinary playing cards, astrology, and spell-casting—they set forth to free Candice from the dangerous situation she is in.

    Quick Read

This was an incredibly quick read at only 90 pages. It’s a story of the strong bond of friendship and doing what one has to in order to save someone you care about. Being a novella there isn’t a lot of time for strong character development or background story.

This is the story of three friends; Frankie, Sandra, and Candice. Candice has moved to the “city” (we never do find out exactly where the girls are from, other than they are from the country and the city that Candice is now living in is obviously very “inner city”) and is in trouble. Frankie dreams of her and enlists Sandra is going to find her and bring her home.

Frankie and Sandra are very naïve and Frankie is quite judgemental of just about everyone she encounters while they are in the city. We aren’t given the ages of the girls, so it’s hard to tell if this was intentional based on how she was raised or perhaps her age. Sandra is more level headed, but truthfully doesn’t have to deal with all the mess that Frankie gets thrown in to.

The story was very well written and the author tackled some difficult subject matter with ease. My only let down was really the lack of magic used. The girls did scry to find their friend, they consulted tarot and playing cards for advice and called upon their Spirit Guides to help and protect them. But it was almost like reading an episode of Charmed. It was all very basic and I guess I was just expecting a lot more magic use or something a little deeper.

Overall I did give this book 4 little bookie worms because it was well written. ~ Desiree Putaski, Amazon Review

    A magic story of friendship

Severed Ties by Angie Skelhorn 4.5 STARS
I will call it a story of coming to age for Three small town girls, Frankie, Candice, and Sandra who each have their own Magic. One who trusts her abilities without fail, one who questions her strength in her abilities, and one who almost turns her back on everything she knows. The is a story about the strength of that friendship that was made all them years before.

From the book ” She felt pulled in two different directions, One to help her friend the other was to go home. She heard in the wind the pledge the three of them made in elementary school. We promise to remain the kind of friends we are today. We promise to be there always for each other no matter what. We promise to have time for each other. We promise to be friends until we are 90 and beyond. We promise to be friends forever.”

As one life is turned upside as her parents split and forget what it’s doing to their child, she goes off on her own and finds the wrong way of life. The others know they have to get to her before something bad happens. They run headlong into the city, something which neither know anything about to help their friend. Thankfully they meet an inked up city boy Calvin who knows the ways of the streets and offers them guidance to find their friend. All they hope for is that they find her in time.

I gave to 4.5 STARS only because I would like more background to fully understand everyone’s role more thoroughly. All in all a great read! ~ Christy Hilton-Hall, Amazon Review
