If I had to sum this novel up in a word, that would be what I’d use. When I first read this book I wasn’t really aware of what I was getting myself into. I assumed that it was just another “woman against evil being” book similar to the ones that abound in the horror genre.

I have to admit, I was pretty impressed by this book. It does have a few flaws to it, such as character developments that happen a little too quickly, but overall I liked how fast paced the book was. It’s such a quick & addicting read that I found myself burning through the pages & finishing it within a matter of hours. I just couldn’t stop reading!

Then I got to the ending, which I won’t elaborate on for obvious spoiler reasons. I wasn’t expecting it so when the big finale happened I was taken by surprise to say the least. I have to admit that I was sad to see this end- I really hope that Fiona writes a sequel somewhere down the line since this idea is too good for just one book.

This book gave me the shivers, which is a good thing. It’s reminded me of what I used to really love about reading horror, which I hadn’t felt in a while. This just creeped me out & that’s a good thing. If you love mainstream horror then by all means, read the mainstream stuff- nothing wrong with that. But when you’re ready for something good off the beaten path, read this book as well. ~ ChibiNeko VINE VOICE, Amazon Review

An excellent read that kept me turning the pages, l was literally unable to put this down!
The storyline is fast paced right from the first page so it really didn’t take long to get into the story at all. Melissa and Mark’s trials throughout the book keep the imagination on top form and eager to see events unfold. Definitely a ‘must read’ book for anyone who likes well written, believable horror that gets a grip of you and won’t let you go!

Unbelievable that this is a debut novel… Looking forward to reading many more! ~ Michele1811, Amazon Reviewer

    Truly Scary!

What is so scary about this book is the evil people can do to one another. I found the beginning more terrifing than the middle. And the end was a shocker. The difference in what a demon can do and what a person can do in the name of evil are not that far apart. ~ snapdragon928, Amazon Reviewer

    Good Suspense Book

I was a little unsure when I first started this book and it took me a few pages to get used to the writing style. But seriously no more than 10 pages in I was hooked.

What starts as a mystery story of why Melissa’s husband is changing and seems to be keeping things from her quickly turns into a suspenseful tale of horror. You are right there with Melissa as she figures out what is going on. You can understand why her friends are trying to get her to leave. But at the same time you understand why she has to stay and find out the truth.

The story is set at a good pace, it doesn’t lag or seem to go too fast. We find out quite a bit about Melissa and her husband, with only a couple hints as to what type of people her friends are. But as they truly are secondary characters we do find out plenty.

The book comes to quite the surprising conclusion. I have to admit it was completely unexpected. Part of me does wonder what happens next.

If you are looking for a good horror/suspense novel, this is one you should pick up and she is a writer to watch for. I fully expect to see more from her in the future and am looking forward to it. ~ Donna Simmonds, Amazon Reviewer

The Banishing – the things we do for love…

The Banishing is in places brutal and unflinching and quite often raises a shiver or two – happily so! The story merges the grim realism of domestic abuse with supernatural themes and there is enough to keep you involved as a reader until the final reveal. The world in this novel is a recognisable one and the horror dovetails nicely to give The Banishing a haunted feel. This is a confident debut from Fiona Dodwell and for those of you who like a slice of real with their horror I would certainly recommend taking a chance on The Banishing. ~ Lee Mather, Amazon Reviewer
